The Wharton Customer Analytics Initiative and Evite will host a datathon for Penn students.  Students must register as a team with varying skill sets, combining quantitative and qualitative abilities. Ideal teams will have 2-5 members. The datathon will launch via webinar on February 11 and culminate with presentations in front of Evite executives on February 22 in Philadelphia on the Penn campus.

The project 

Evite will provide a robust dataset of event and user data, an overview of their business model, and some interesting business challenges they are currently facing.  Students will design and implement data-driven solutions for improving the user experience of the Evite platform and increasing revenue for the company.  Final projects will be presented to Evite CEO, Victor Cho, W’93 and VP, Jay Neuman who will select the winning team.


Each member of the winning team will receive a pair of Bang & Olufsen headphones courtesy of Evite.  Additionally, the winning team members are invited to attend a dinner hosted by Evite CEO Victor Cho, W’93 and VP Jay Neuman on February 22.  The winning team will also be invited to virtually present their finding to the technology and leadership organizations at Evite at time to be determined.

key dates

  • February 6: All teams must register for the datathon by Wednesday, February 6 at 11:59 PM EST. Ideal teams should have 2-5 members.
  • February 11: One student from each team is required to attend the webinar with Evite on February 11 at 12:00 PM EST. Evite employees and WCAI staff will  discuss the datathon, datasets and business questions.  Student teams are encouraged to ask questions during the webinar.  All teams will receive access to the data and Data User Agreement (DUA) via Canvas by prior to the webinar.
  • February 13 & 15: All participating teams will have access to technical support via virtual office hours with WCAI technical assistants.
  • February 22: Final student presentations.  Evite executives will be on campus for the presentations on students findings to judge the competition.
