Wharton Customer Analytics (WCA) is looking for three enthusiastic Wharton MBAs to be a part of our 10th Annual Conference as our Student Conference Co-Chairs. These three individuals will play a vital role in the success of the conference by creating an experience for attendees to learn about business analytics and growth from industry professionals, WCA Leadership, and each other. This is the first year that WCA is providing this opportunity for students to be uniquely involved in planning this conference and we hope this experience will provide unique leadership and networking opportunities for our conference co-chairs. The conference co-chairs include the Sponsorship Chair, the Speaker Management Chair, and the Registration Chair. These are paid positions and will require students to work both Fall 2019 and Spring 2020 semesters.

Descriptions of each position are as follows:

Sponsorship Chair

The Conference Sponsorship Chair is responsible for assisting WCA in securing and managing all corporate conference sponsors. The Sponsorship Chair will be responsible for conducting some market research on sponsorship in order to improve current and future sponsorship practices. The sponsorship chair is someone who is results-driven, has strong verbal communication skills, and experience in sales or development. This person must be comfortable with cold calling and asking for sponsorship.

List of responsibilities:

  • Assist WCA in reaching sponsorship goals
  • Conduct market research with potential sponsors to understand their capacity to give & business development interests
  • Develop and maintain Sponsor Prospect list
  • Call and email potential sponsors to secure sponsorship money
  • Manage sponsor relationships including providing information, being available for questions & honoring all sponsorship promises
  • Manage conference sponsors on-site at the conference (April 21-22, 2020)
  • Create a report for 2021 Sponsorship Chair & best practices including recommendations for 2021 conference sponsorship opportunities

Payment = $12/hour
Expected Workload: 5 hours/month in September, November, December; 10-15 hours/month in January, February, March, April + on-site hours at the conference


Speaker Management Chair

The Conference Speaker Management Chair is responsible for assisting WCA in identifying, securing, and managing speakers for the conference. The Speaker Management Chair assists WCA staff in developing a list of potential industry leaders/speakers for the conference as well as collecting and providing information to speakers throughout the planning process. The Speaker Management chair is someone who is professional, extremely detail-oriented, and has strong written communication skills.  This person must be comfortable emailing c-suite executives for information in a professional manner.

List of responsibilities:

  • Assist WCA in building out speaker list of the conference
  • Research top companies, leadership, and analytics news to help WCA put together the right content for conference goals
  • Develop and manage potential speaker list
  • Create personalized speaker information documents and send to speakers
  • Collect all information needed from speakers at designated times- headshots, bios, media release, talk summary, slides, etc.
  • Assist in managing conference speakers on-site at the conference (April 21-22, 2020), which may include bringing speakers to radio interviews on campus on the day of the event
  • Create a report for 2021 Speaker Management Chair & best practices including recommendations for 2021 conference speakers or changes in organizational methods

Payment = $12/hour
Expected Workload: 5 hours/month in September, November, December; 10-15 hours/month in January, February, March, April + on-site hours at the conference


Registration Chair

The Conference Registration Chair is responsible for assisting WCA in managing registration goals for the conference. The Registration Chair manages all updates and maintenance to the conference registration site as well as fielding registration questions including discounts, reimbursements, travel, etc. The Registration Chair will provide weekly updates to WCA staff on conference registration goals. The Registration Chair is service-oriented, has strong written communication skills, and has an understanding of budgets and finance. Experience with CVENT event software is a bonus.

List of responsibilities:

  • Assist WCA in reaching registration goals- revenue, audience total, and audience breakdown
  • Create pricing matrix for conference that highlights revenue & audience goals, researching pricing that is competitive in the market & aligns with conference costs
  • Audit registration list to make sure discounts are used correctly
  • Respond to registration questions and emails directed to WCA about conference
  • Responsible for assisting with reimbursements and following/communicating the WCA Conference reimbursement policy
  • Maintain master registration list & provide reports to staff as needed
  • Assist WCA with marketing strategy in order to get more of the targeted attendees to register
  • Assist on-site at event, managing student volunteers at registration and running the desk
  • Create a report for 2021 Registration Chair & best practices including recommendations for 2021 conference registration pricing, templated responses, and marketing tips.

Payment = $12/hour
Expected Workload: 5 hours/month in September, November, December; 10-15 hours/month in January, February, March, April + on-site hours at the conference
